Higher School Certificate.
The 'matriculation information' "refers to the minimum aggregate mark required for an application to receive consideration for selection and admission to the universities and/or tertiary institute". The 'S' in first place stands for Sydney University.
As far as I remember, admission to an arts degree at Sydney Uni in 1981 required a mark of around 260. My aggregate mark of 376 meant I easily qualified for admission to the city's premier tertiary institution. A perfect score in those days would have been 500.
Note the percentile band for Latin is asterisked out. My actual mark for Latin was around 50/100 but because the lowest mark was disregarded by the Board of Senior School Studies, it is not recorded here.
Of interest in the light of my future interests is the fact that my mathematics and biology rankings exceed that attained for English. Note also that I took 3-unit French, in which my strong performance was aided by two sojourns in New Caledonia, where I lived for a few weeks at a time during school holidays with a family of five: the Declercs. My acquaintance with the Declercs derived from the friendship between the family and an old friend of my father's, Georgette Goodings.
