Gold 4WD
SOLO ART SHOW
GALLERY 59 GOULBURN, March 2024
The Exhibition
We live in a mechanised world. Machines extend our reach, organise our time and shape how we move through daily life. We rely on them, resent their presence, and quietly thank them for their service. They promise freedom while enforcing structure, efficiency while narrowing choice.
Cinema offers a telling shorthand: almost every film is anchored by a car or a gun. Movement and power become narrative defaults, symbols so embedded they pass unnoticed. Gold 4WD asks what kind of life might exist in their absence, and whether such a life is now imaginable at all.
This exhibition examines a world of persistent mechanisation, where numbers replace language and measurement becomes a form of governance. Here, control is not imposed but embraced. Optimisation masquerades as pleasure. Efficiency becomes aspiration. Joy is found not in freedom from systems, but in their flawless operation.
Gold 4WD reflects on the psychological comfort of machinery and the quiet surrender it encourages, inviting viewers to consider how deeply mechanisation has shaped desire, agency and the idea of progress itself.
